The Team
Conceived and conceptualized by the husband & wife team of Ganapathy and Chitra
KADAMBAVANAM is their Dream Project envisioned to protect and promote the cause of Tamil heritage and culture.

Ganapathy, an architect, with 20 years of practice in architecture and interior design and a vast portfolio of projects all over Tamilnadu to his credit, is the creative force behind ‘Kadambavanam’.

Chitra, a cost accounting and HR consultant, well trained in classical dance and music, and hailing from an illustrious Tamil family is into conceptualising the authentic ‘Tamil’ living experience which is the highlight of ‘Kadambavanam’

The Prapanjas family extends to include Smt.M.Vasanthamani (Ganapathy’s mother), who is a chef par excellence and is an avid artist herself in rendering ‘kollams’, the design motifs that adorn the entrance of every Tamil home.

And Dr.Sarada Nambi Arooran (Chitra’s mother) a renowned Tamil scholar, actively spreading the glory of Tamil and saivite literature across the globe. Chitra’s father Dr.Nambi Arooran is the grandson of the great Tamil scholar Maraimalai Adigalar, the founder of the Pure Tamil movement.

Dr. Venkatraman, a renowned art history professor  is part of the core team. He is a store house of information, with a wealth of knowledge to share about the history of Madurai and its surrounding areas.  Dr. V, as he is fondly known, is a great story teller and makes learning facts fun. Under his guidance, Kadambavanam aims to promote several Lesser known historical places around Madurai, not only among tourists, but also our own community, helping to preserve and pass on local history to the future generations.

Another key member of our core team is Prof. Sulaiman, an archaeologist with a passion for all ethnic arts such as rural folk dances, bathik painting, traditional crafts like pottery, weaving etc. He works tirelessly for the betterment of artists involved in these livelihood occupations and has helped add lot of colour and content to the Cultural centre.

He calls himself ‘Traditional food researcher’ and is a sidda practitioner (an indigenous form of medical practice using native herbs). Pala. Ramasubramaniam has dedicated his life to researching and reviving ancient food practices taking references from Tamil literary works composed between 4th century BC and 7th century AD. He has helped research ingredients and recipes for many authentic traditional foods  using local millets.
